WBSC Premier 12 2024TC: Australia vs Dominican Republic
In a much-anticipated match at the WBSC Premier 12 2024, Australia faced off against the Dominican Republic at the Taipei Tianmunu Stadium. The match marked the start of the third day of Group B of the tournament.
Australia manager David Nielsen decided to hand over the ball to warwick Saupold, a 34-year-old experienced former Major League player with experience in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Detroit Tigers and a starter in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league. Saupold brings back valuable experience he pitched for the Hanwa Eagles in 82 MLB matches and at the KBO in 2019 and 2020.
On the opposite side, the Dominican Republic opted for 22-year-old talented right-hander Lewis Vargas from the Atlanta Braves organisation. Vargas’ strong performance throughout the year, dismissing 65 batsmen in 64 innings, showed his skills as a rising star in the sport

Historically, the match is interesting as Australia and the Dominican Republic have never met in the WBSC Premier 12 tournament

Australia won the 2018 WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup. This has added a layer of excitement and hope to the game.
