India has demonstrated active engagement in the BRICS Health Track initiative, promoting collaborative efforts to advance the joint health agenda aimed at strengthening the health system in BRICS countries, so as to address important global health challenges: Union Health Secretary

“The BRICS Vaccine Research and Development Centre was launched virtually during India’s presidency and ICMR-NIV was appointed as the coordinating agency for brics vaccine and r&d centre activities.

ICMR, in collaboration with a network of NIV and other partner institutions, is starting phase 3 clinical trials of the recombinant dengue vaccine.

“India’s National Action Plan on AMR, launched in 2017, emphasizes cross-sectoral cooperation and a health approach and is in line with the objectives outlined in the WHO’s Global Action Plan.

India recognizes the importance of promoting cooperation among BRICS countries in the fields of nuclear medicine and radio-pharmaceutical science.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Health Secretary said that India has demonstrated active engagement in the BRICS Health Track initiative, promoting collaborative efforts to advance the joint health agenda aimed at strengthening the health system in BRICS countries, so as to address important global health challenges. He said that during its presidency, India recognised the need for brics integrated early warning mechanism for prevention of a wide range of infectious hazards in accordance with international health regulations and stressed the need for a health approach to disease surveillance.

Shri Apoorva Chandra highlighted that the BRICS Vaccine Research and Development Centre was virtually launched during India’s presidency and nominate the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology (NIV)

WHO's Global Action Plan. India recognizes AMR as a global concern and supports promoting cooperation among BRICS countries

Noting that India aligns with the agenda of the upcoming BRICS Conference on Antimicrobial Prevention as a global challenge to BRICS national health and well-being, the Union Health Secretary said that “India’s National Action Plan on AMR, launched in 2017, emphasizes inter-sectoral cooperation and a health approach and aligns with the objectives outlined in the WHO’s Global Action Plan. India recognizes AMR as a global concern and supports promoting cooperation among BRICS countries to create and implement protocols, projects and platforms for addressing AMR through comprehensive initiatives such as data analysis, laboratory quality control, epidemiological evaluation and training initiatives.

Shri Apoorva Chandra further said that India recognizes the importance of advancing cooperation among BRICS countries in the field of nuclear medicine and radio-medicine and special emphasis on strengthening the radio-drug supply chain and increasing ISOT. read more
