Mr. Yadav stressed that life involves more than just the needs of human beings, suggesting harmonious co-existence of all living beings and environment.

He highlighted that the government has achieved renewable energy targets nine years ahead of schedule and launched the Soil Health Card initiative to reduce the use of chemicals in agriculture.

The ministry in collaboration with the Maharashtra Environment Department has organised ‘Ideas 4Leaf’ at IIT Bombay for innovative environmental solutions. The programme is an initiative to engage students, faculty and researchers in creating ideas to promote eco-friendly lifestyles. The event is aimed at involving the academic community in Mumbai and beyond by inviting participation from students and faculty from UGC, AICTE, IITs and other educational institutions across India. Over 1,200 students, researchers and faculty from various educational institutions in Mumbai actively participated in the event.Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav has planted a sapling at IIT Bombay as part of the ‘Ek Pad Maa Ke Naam’ campaign launched by The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on June 5, 2024

Speaking at the event, the Union Minister highlighted the government’s mission and outlined the theme of ‘Ideas 4LIFE’, emphasizing on the interconnectedness of all aspects of life. He emphasised that ‘life’ encompasses more than just the needs of human beings, supporting the harmonious co-existence of all living beings and environments.


The Union Minister emphasised that the human-centric approach to development was not adequate, but suggested an environmentally conscious model. Highlighting the essential role of nature in providing food, energy, medicines and other resources, he highlighted the adverse impact of developments such as rising temperatures and loss of biodiversity. He stressed on the need to conserve one-third of the world’s population for biodiversity, adding that about 50,000 species are used for human consumption. He also outlined three essential tasks for sustainable development: changes in consumer demand, improving supply chains and implementing effective policies.

The Union Minister also discussed the problem of world-class food waste and mentioned that 15 billion tonnes of landfills are being completed annually.

Highlighting India’s environmental achievements, he noted that the government has achieved its renewable energy target 9 years ahead of schedule and launched the Soil Health Card initiative to reduce chemical use in agriculture.

Inviting feedback and suggestions from students of various colleges to contribute towards conservation of nature and waste reduction, he urged them to finally help in incorporating the ecological balance into the development strategy.
