Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said the following in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today on the topic of ‘Digital and Financial Literacy Initiatives’.

The Department of Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has taken several initiatives for digital and financial literacy for the youth in the rural areas of the country.

Through Mera Yuva Bharat, the Department recently conducted training sessions for officers of more than 600 programmes of the National Service Scheme on Digital Literacy in different parts of the country so that they can be in a position to train the youth more in this subject.

The department organized investor education, awareness and protection programs through a field organization called Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan

Apart from this, the department organized investor education, awareness and protection programs through a field organization called Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan in collaboration with investor education, awareness and protection fund authority. A total of 14,513 people, including young volunteers, participated in the programme since November 2019.

The Department of Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through its field organizations and various schemes, involves the youth in various nation-building activities, following the second objective of personality development and nation building. For example, the National Service Scheme (NSS) is engaged in developing the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the objective of the NSS.

Similarly, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) is reaching out to rural youth for their empowerment and civic involvement through its various programmes and interventions.

Apart from this, mera yuva bharat (MY India), an autonomous body under the Department of Youth Affairs, was recently launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 31.10.2023. My India has been driven by technology, youth development and youth-led development through ‘Sense of Duty’ and ‘Spirit of Service’ during the AMRUT period.

A digital platform has been developed for MY Bharat (https://www.mybharat.gov.in/) in which youth from across the country can register and sign up for various volunteer opportunities available on the portal. The planned financial (physical + digital) ecosystem is to empower young people to be catalysts for group change.

Budget allocation has been made for the financial year 2024-25 for various schemes/programmes of the Department of Youth Affairs. read more
