Third quarter (Q3) of 9th edition of Swachh Survekshan 2024 unveiled
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has started the third quarter (third quarter) of the ninth edition of the Swachh Survekshan 2024. The third phase of the survey will focus on evaluating the entire value chain of waste management in bulk waste generators (BWGs). The comprehensive Swachh Survekshan includes valuations in four quarters. The first two focused on telephone feedback from citizens on various parameters of cleanliness in the city, assessment of processing facilities in the third quarter, while the fourth quarter focused on field evaluation over all indices.

About 150,000 tonnes of waste is generated daily in urban India. Due to increasing urbanization and lifestyle changes, municipal solid waste is witnessing a significant increase. According to mohua, around 30 to 40% of the waste in a city is estimated to be generated by the BWG. In the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, BWGs are defined as entities with an average waste generation rate of more than 100 kg per day by combining all waste.

As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of urban local bodies in various implementing components of the Swachh Bharat Mission – urban areas, the third quarter of the Swachh Survekshan 2024 will commence from July 5, which will examine all aspects of waste management, including collection, transportation, processing and final disposal of waste generated by the BWGs under the ULB.
