The President was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the University of Shaheed Ihadden Abdelhefid, a scientific and technological centre
The President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by The Shaheed Ihadden Abdelhfid University, Algeria at a function held at Siddi Abdela today (October 15, 2024). President Draupadi Murmu was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in political science for her support of science and knowledge to all social groups in India.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that it is a matter of greater pride for India than for him as an individual. He thanked the Scientific and Technological Hub for the award.
The President said that education is not only a medium for individual empowerment but also for national development. The Government of India has introduced a number of reforms in the field of education with an aim to develop students as conscious citizens and lead India in the ‘knowledge economy’. The new National Education Policy 2020 aims to bring about changes at all levels in the education system. The policy has also opened the way for cooperation with foreign educational institutions.
The President said that India provides quality education to a small amount of the cost of western institutions and also offers a number of scholarships and fellowships to African students. He invited the youth of educational institutions, government departments and Algeria to take advantage of various initiatives of the Government of India.
The President said that India-Algeria relations are far from reaching their potential. He expressed confidence that the youth of India and Algeria will achieve this and ultimately they will become bridges to enhance strong people-to-people ties.
