The Ministry of Rural Development and the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) are organising the Saras Aajeevika Mela for the third consecutive year from October 13 to 29 at the Leisure Valley Ground, Sector 29, Gurugram. More than 900 rural women artisans from around 30 states are participating in the Saras Mela. Products from different states such as tussar sarees, bag prints, patola sarees from Gujarat, wooden sarees from West Bengal, Rajasthani prints, Chanderi sarees from Madhya Pradesh, wool products and natural food products from Himachal-Uttarakhand, wood products from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, various dry fruits and handloom products from Jammu and Kashmir, various dry fruits and handloom products from Jammu and Kashmir, as well as a variety of products from Jharkhand.
In the fair, the didis of self-help groups will be given knowledge about various ministries.
Apart from this, a Saras Food Court will be set up at the Gurugram Saras Mela with 50 live food stalls from around 25 states. Food will be available from all over India, including Rajasthani Kair Sangri-Gatta Ki Sabzi, Fish Curry from Bengal, Telangana Chicken, Litti Chokha from Bihar, Sarso Ka Saag and Makki Ki Roti from Punjab. Cultural programmes are being organised every day at the fair and children’s zones have been set up for children’s sports and entertainment. Lakhs of tourists and customers from the National Capital Region, including Delhi-Gurugram, will participate in the fair. All arrangements are being made keeping in mind the convenience of tourists. Keeping in view the cleanliness, online registration/enrolment of Self Help Groups (SHGs) has been arranged in this Saras Aajeevika Mela. Bc Sakhi and journalist sisters from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh will also participate in the fair.
This time a north-east mandap has also been set up in Gurugram Saras.
This time, a north-eastern pavilion has also been set up at the Gurugram Saras Mela so that priority can be given to the north-eastern states and state-wise mandaps will be built for each state to give priority to them. Medical help desks and ambulance facilities will be available for health services in the fair. The contribution of the Gurugram district administration and the Haryana State Livelihood Mission is also being taken up to provide various facilities to the women of self-help groups and make the fair a success.
Saras Mela has been organized for the last 26 years in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India and the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR). It has provided employment opportunities to millions of rural women and millions of women have also learnt marketing skills.
