Shri Sanjay Kumar inaugurated the National Awareness Workshop on ITEP, NMM and NPST

Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, inaugurated a two-day National Sensitization Workshop on Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), National Counselling Mission (NMM) and National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) with special emphasis on Sections 15.5, 15.11 and 5.20 of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. The workshop was organised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in association with The Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida. It was held at Gautam Buddha University. It was attended by over 300 participants, including education administrators, teacher educators, heads of institutions, representatives of state/UT governments and policy makers from various apex bodies. The objective of the workshop was to make the representatives aware about the framework and implementation of ITEP, NMM and NPST.

Addressing the participants, Shri Sanjay Kumar stressed on the relevance of ITEP and the role of teachers in shaping the future of the country. NCTE Chairman Prof Pankaj Arora welcomed and addressed the participants at the event. Smt. Kesang Y Sherpa, Member Secretary, NCTE addressed the meeting giving a detailed account of the journey and broad vision of ITEP and its convergence with NEP 2020. Vice-Chancellor of NIEPA Prof Shashikala Wanjri and Gautam Buddha University Vice Chancellor Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha also had a detailed discussion on the implementation of ITEP. The technical session was conducted by Prof Vandana Saxena and Prof K Ramachandran, which explored the theme of ‘Evolving Role of Teachers in Multidisciplinary Institutions in light of NEP 2020’ and ‘ITEP 2020.

Ms Kesang Y Sherpa addressed the meeting with a detailed presentation on NMM.

On the second day of the programme, Prof. Shashikala Wanjari inaugurated the programme and highlighted how NMM and NPST are the need of the hour to enhance the skills and professional development of the teachers in service. Ms Kesang Y Sherpa addressed the meeting with a detailed presentation on NMM. Dr. Meena Rajiv Chandwarkar, Chairman, Southern Regional Committee, NCTE and Dr. Dibyajyoti Mahanta, Chairman, Eastern Regional Committee, NCTE addressed the participants and highlighted the traditional approach to teaching and equiping teachers with 21st century skills.
