The President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu attended the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Adoption of the Constitution at the Central Hall of Parliament House today (November 26, 2024).

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that on this day 75 years ago, in this central hall of the ‘Constitution House’, the Constituent Assembly performed the mammoth task of framing the Constitution for a newly independent country. That day, through the Constituent Assembly, we, the people of India, adopted, promulgated and gave it to ourselves.
The President said that our Constitution is the strong foundation stone of our democratic republic. Our Constitution ensures our collective and individual dignity.

The President said that on the occasion of 75 years of Independence, all citizens celebrated ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. We will celebrate the 75th anniversary of our democracy on January 26 next year. Such festivals offer us an opportunity to review the journey so far and plan better for the journey ahead. Such festivals show that we all stand together to strengthen our unity and achieve our national goals.
The President said that in a sense, the Constitution of India is the result of nearly three years of deliberations. But in the true sense it was the result of our long freedom struggle. The ideals of that unparalleled national movement found a place in the Constitution. Those ideals have been briefly adopted in the Preamble of the Constitution. They are justice, liberty, equality and brotherhood. It has been defining India since this era of ideology. The ideals outlined in the Preamble of Culture.
The President said that the active participation of the executive
The President said that the active participation of the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, as well as all citizens, gives strength to our constitutional ideals. The fundamental duties of every citizen are clearly mentioned in our Constitution. The fundamental duties of citizens include protecting the unity and integrity of India, promoting harmony in the society, ensuring the dignity of women, protecting the environment, developing scientific temper, protecting public property and taking the country to a higher level of success.
“It is the responsibility of the executive, the legislature and the judiciary to work together to improve the lives of the common people in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution,” he said. He noted that the aspirations of the people have been expressed in many laws enacted by Parliament. He said that in the last few years, the Government has taken several steps for the development of all communities.
The President said that in the constitutional journey of nearly three quarters of a century, the country has been remarkably successful in showing that capability and developing those conventions. He stressed that the lessons we have learnt should be passed on to the next generation. He noted that the celebration of ‘Constitution Day’ every year since 2015 has helped in raising awareness among the younger generation about the Constitution. He urged all the countrymen to promote constitutional ideals in their conduct.
