On the occasion of Tribal Pride Day on 15th November 2024, Hon’ble Governor of Madhya Pradesh Shri Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav released a commemorative postage stamp dedicated to “Sickle Cell Eradication – 2047” at PG College, Dhar. Sickle cell anemia poses a significant health challenge, especially among tribal populations. Madhya Pradesh has been at the forefront of combating the disease through the availability of state-of-the-art diagnostic tools such as genetic counselling, community screening and HPLC machines.

Sickle Cell Eradication- 2047 campaign aims to create a healthy future for the tribal community. These include setting up of AIIMS Bhopal’s special laboratory for newborn testing, a robust mobile app for prenatal diagnosis and effective tracking and reporting in partnership with Sankalp India, and the National Sickle Cell Portal

The memorial ticket honours the state government’s initiative to tackle the high prevalence of sickle cell anemia in tribal areas and showcases its commitment to eradicate hereditary diseases by 2047. The Sickle Cell Eradication Mission was launched in a phased manner, which first covered districts like Alirajpur and Jhabua and then spread to 17 states across India.

This commemorative stamp from the Postal Department reflects India’s dedication to addressing public health challenges and enhancing the well-being of its citizens. The visionary leadership and collaborative efforts symbolized on this stamp will be a reminder of the commitment to a sickle cell-free India. read more
