NAVIKA SAGAR PARIKRAMA II – INSV TARINI DEPARTS FROM LYTTELTON

The Indian Naval Ship (INSV) Tarini left From The Port of Littleton in New Zealand this morning for the journey (Phase III) for Port Stanley (Falkland Islands) at around 09:30 pm (0200 HR IST). At a distance of around 5,600 nm (about 10,400 km), it is the longest phase of the expedition. It will also be the southernmost transport of Tarini at around 56 degrees south.

INSV Tarini arrived in Littleton on December 22 after completing the second leg of the historic double-hand circumambulation being conducted by two women officers of the Indian Navy, Lt CDR Dilna K and Lt CDR Roopa A

Meanwhile, the crew in Littleton repaired and maintained the boat and paid special attention to the next stage where the ship would cross the South Pacific Ocean, pass through the treacherous Drake Passage, and cross the Cape Horn to reach Port Stanley. With the front weather system of the Southern Ocean, Team Tarini hopes to experience challenging seas with winds blowing at a speed of 50-60 knots (90-110 kmph).

The staff interacted with the Indian community who were interested in visiting the boat while they were in Littleton and asked the staff about various aspects of the sea voyage.

INSV Tarini was opened to tourists at the Littleton Port of Christchurch (LPC) on January 24. Tourists from different parts of the country visited the ship and interacted with staff including Mrs Victoria Henstock of Christchurch City Councilor.
