The National Energy Conservation Day was celebrated at a function held at Dr. Teneti Vishwanatham Auditorium of the Centre for Education and Development of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Shri A.K. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. A.K. Bagchi, Director (Projects) and Additional Responsibility Director (Managing), RINL advised the employees and families to focus on energy conservation in daily life and manage all facilities at a prescribed capacity to reduce energy consumption and expenditure. He congratulated RINL for winning the National Energy Leader Award for six terms and the Outstanding Energy Efficient Unit Award eight times and achieving this feat is a rare achievement for any PSU and integrated steel plant. He complimented the Department of Energy Management for organising a massive energy conservation awareness campaign among all departments and schools through various programmes from December 1 to 14, 2024.

Earlier in the day, GM (EMD)-in-charge Shri K Sudhakar delivered the welcome address and highlighted the various energy conservation initiatives being implemented at RINL.
RINL is a pioneer in adopting energy conservation technologies and has adopted power generation from CDQ, top pressure recovery turbine, LD gas recovery, sinter cooler waste heat recovery, PCI, billet castor and BF gas in blast furnaces.
In his address, CGM (Public Works)-In-charge Shri R. Mohanty informed that the green steel classification initiative initiated by the Ministry of Steel as per the Panchamrit Energy Policy of the Government of India is being implemented in real spirit in RINL-Vizag Steel.
The award was presented by the Director, CGM and other senior officials for the innovative energy conservation project and overall energy performance of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. A large number of school children and staff who won various competitions were rewarded by the guests of honour.
Two award-winning skits from the Visakhapatnam Steel General Hospital department and a skit of young children highlighting the importance of energy conservation enthralled the audience.
Around 3500 people participated in various programmes in the energy conservation awareness campaign. Representatives of Steel Executive Association, Trade Unions, SC &ST Associations, OBC Associations, WIPS and a large number of employees enthusiastically participated in the Energy Conservation Day celebrations held at RINL. read more
