Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla has urged the MPs to make ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ and ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaigns a people’s movement and develop a sense of healthy competition among each other to make India TB (TB) disease free by 2025.

Inaugurating a friendly cricket match between MPs of various political parties aimed at creating awareness about the ‘TB-free India’ and ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaigns at The Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, Birla said, “Public awareness and public participation are important for success in our fight against tuberculosis (TB) and drug addiction.

The Speaker highlighted the need for tuberculosis and anti-drug resistance to build a healthy society and instilled the spirit of ‘healthy competition’ where all parliamentary constituencies will contest to become TB-F.

Mr Birla stressed on the responsibility of elected representatives in the fight against TUBERCULOSIS. He said the public representatives are expected to contribute to social programmes and government initiatives aimed at disease prevention and use their experience in the field of disease prevention and post-disease care.

Shri Birla noted that TUBERCULOSIS (TB) is a disease that presents significant challenges and difficulties for the people, especially the poor. He stressed on the need for a national resolve to address this challenge.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has set global targets for tb eradication by 2030, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has set more ambitious targets for tb eradication by 2025. Birla added that the cooperation of all MPs is important to achieve this goal as they represent india’s 1.4 billion people in Parliament. The Speaker urged them to work with a resolution to make India TB free by 2025.

Stating that steps have been taken in Parliament to eradicate TB and it is the responsibility of the MPs to take it forward, Shri Birla said that india’s democratic structure, from panchayats to Parliament, should work with full dedication involving all elected representatives. read more
