KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar Gandhi inaugurated a khadi exhibition titled ‘Khadi: Fabric of Freedom, Fashion Language’ (Khadi: Fabric of Freedom, Fashion Language) at The Gandhi-King Memorial Plaza in the presence of K N Srivastava, Director, India International Centre (IIC). India International Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Organised in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (COEK) and the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the exhibition showcases the remarkable journey of khadi, from hand-cutting cloth to sustainability and its current status as a symbol of modern fashion during India’s freedom movement under Mahatma Gandhi.

Organised by COEK in collaboration with Khadi Sansthan and NIFT, the exhibition also showcases khadi garments, sarees, home textiles and contemporary designs developed by the design team of COEK.

Organised by COEK in collaboration with Khadi Institute and NIFT, the exhibition showcases khadi dresses, sarees, home textiles and contemporary design developed by the design team of COEK combining traditional craftsmanship with modern beauty.

Addressing the media, KVIC chairman Manoj Kumar said, “The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had once said, ‘I see God in every thread drawn on the wheel.’ Embracing this philosophy, KVIC, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been organising various events like sales campaigns, exhibitions and national and international fairs to increase the income of khadi artisans, which have played an important role in promoting khadi products.

Khadi, which played a key role in the freedom struggle under Gandhiji’s leadership, has now become a fashion icon due to the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Modi and is now known as ‘New Khadi of New India’. He highlighted the success of KVIC and said that the business transaction of Khadi under PM Modi.

Shri Manoj Kumar, Chairman, KVIC has appealed to all citizens to purchase more Khadi products during this festive season, which will help in taking the joy of festivals to the homes of artisans and artisans who work tirelessly to produce better quality goods. KVIC and NIFT officials and employees attended the event.

Highlights of the exhibition:

Khadi Timeline: This impressive performance shows the role of khadi in India’s independence movement, including archival photographs, mahatma Gandhi’s example and historical records emphasizing the importance of cloth in that era.

Experience Centre: A live demonstration of the spinning process has been set up using bardoli and petty charkha at this place, so that tourists can see the craft behind khadi production.

Modern Design: The exhibition showcases works designed by the Centre of Excellence for Khadi in collaboration with khadi institutions such as textiles, sarees and the home textile industry, with an excellent mi of tradition and modernity. read more
