Union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge), Minister of State for Earth Sciences (Independent Charge), PMO, Department of Atomic Energy and Minister of State for Space and Space and Space and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh said in New Delhi on Saturday, ” India is going to be the sixth country to undertake its deep-sea mission.

Presiding over a meeting to discuss the 100-day Action Plan of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Dr Jitendra Singh expressed pride and happiness over the progress of the Deep Sea Mission and India is among the few countries to achieve this feat. He asked the institutions to focus on achieving a stable blue-economy to empower the people dependent on the sea and empower its power for livelihood. Talking about drawing the contours of deep sea expeditions, he said the mission is not limited to mineral exploration but also to the development of oceanography and exploration of flora and fauna and conservation of marine biodiversity etc.

The Union Minister appreciated the efforts of the National Institute of Ocean Technology

The Union Minister appreciated the efforts of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) for the development of Matsyayana 60, which can penetrate 60 meters deep into the ocean. He reviewed its progress and directed the officials to complete the first phase of work on the port stone by September 2024. And will complete the next trial by 2026

'Titanium Hall' in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation

Dr Jitendra Singh lauded them for working to successfully deal with extreme stress by developing the ‘Titanium Hall’ in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He also enquired about the development of ‘self-flotation’ technology to deal with emergencies and remain submerged for 72 hours. Some of the highlights of this were the progress of Yan’s four-hour landing.

Deep Sea Expedition has the potential to contribute significantly to the overall growth of the Indian economy

Stating that the Deep Sea Expedition has the potential to contribute significantly to the overall growth of the Indian economy , Dr Jitendra Singh said that the expedition will have a multiplier impact on the exploration and discovery of flora and fauna, deep-sea exploration, commercial exploitation of rare earth metals, metals and poly metallic nodules in the Indian Sea Bed. He instructed and encouraged scientists and officials to develop indigenous technologies and capabilities and reduce India’s dependence.
