ICG’s offshore patrol vessels and fast patrol vessels harbor in the Maldives

Indian Coast Guard’s offshore patrol vessel ICGS Vaibhav and fast patrol ship ICGS Abhiraj made a port off call at Male, Maldives on December 16, 2024 as part of their overseas deployment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The personnel of ICGS Vaibhav and ICGS Abhiraj will hold several professional discussions with the Maldives National Defence Forces Coast Guard (MNDF CG).

The focus of these discussions will be on critical maritime areas such as maritime pollution response, maritime exploration and rescue, and maritime law enforcement. It will also include cross-deck training, joint interactions and friendly sports programmes aimed at enhancing friendships and strengthening professional bonds. The visit underscores India’s strong commitment to strengthening the enduring ties between India and the Maldives as well as enhancing regional maritime cooperation

Apart from this, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) personnel at ICGS Vaibhav will join hands with local youth organizations in the environment protection awareness program. The initiative is in sync with the Government of India’s “Punit Sagar Abhiyan”, a campaign dedicated to conserving the marine environment and promoting environmental awareness.

The deployment of these vessels demonstrates the ICG’s commitment to maritime cooperation and its focus on building strong partnerships with regional maritime agencies. Following his visit to the Maldives, ICGS Vaibhav and ICGS Abhiraj are scheduled to meet at Sri Lanka ports of Colombo and Galle to continue their professional exchanges and collaborative efforts.
