The two-day Governors’ Conference concluded today (August 3, 2024) at Rashtrapati Bhavan with The President Smt. Draupadi Murmu and appreciated the collective efforts of the Governor for comprehensive discussions in the spirit of mutual learning.
In his valedictory address, he appreciated that various groups of Governors have presented their valuable ideas and suggestions for the welfare of the people besides improving the functioning of their offices and expressed confidence that these suggestions would be implemented.
On the second day of the conference, six groups of Governors made presentations based on their discussions and proposed the future roadmap before the President, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. The Prime Minister specifically called for increasing the strength of the alumni network of educational institutions and urged to develop a people’s campaign to make educational institutions drug-free. He referred to natural farming as advised by The Governor of Gujarat, Shri Acharya Devvrat, and urged other Governors to make their premises chemical-free by emulating the model of natural farming in other Raj Bhavans. Raj Bhavan should be a source of inspiration and inspiration for others, he said.

After perusing all the reports submitted by the Group of Governors, The Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah appreciated their efforts and said that all steps would be taken to make the functioning of the Governors and The Raj Bhavans more effective.
The President said that the development of the country depends on the overall and accelerated development of the States. All states should learn from each other’s best practices and experiences and move forward.
The President said the government has laid more emphasis on last mile delivery so that no deserving citizen is deprived of welfare programmes. As a result, the lives of ordinary citizens have improved. He urged the Governors to ensure that the benefits of all welfare programmes reach every eligible person so that the goal of holistic development can be achieved in the true sense.

The President said that by further promoting the participation of Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes in the process of development of the country, the Governors can contribute in fulfilling the national resolve of inclusive development. She highlighted the suggestion of a sub-group of Governors for the proper utilisation of resources allocated for the welfare of tribal communities and expressed hope that all Governors would give priority to this suggestion.
The President said that the ambience of the Raj Bhavans should reflect the Indian ethos. The Governors should endeavour to increase the connection of common people with the Raj Bhavans. People should have a feeling of affinity with the Raj Bhavan as their own Bhavan. She noted that many Raj Bhavans are open for public visits and others can also follow the practice. She said that the Raj Bhavans can increase public engagement by organising social and cultural events.

Discussions took place in this conference with the aim of creating better coordination among the various institutions. The Governors are the link between the Centre and the States in the federal system of India. She expressed confidence that cooperative federalism and mutual coordination of the central institutions will be promoted as per the suggestions given by the groups of Governors.
