Four Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) officers brought laurels to India

Four Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) officers brought laurels to India by winning a record 32 medals at the 43rd World Medical and Health Games in Saint-Tropes, France from June 16 to 23. Lieutenant Colonel Sanjeev Malik, Major Anish George, Captain Stephen Sebastian and Captain Dania James created history by winning 19 gold medals, 09 silver medals and 04 bronze medals in the world’s largest sporting event.

The division of the victory is as follows

Lieutenant Colonel Sanjeev Malik VSM, five gold medals (men’s 35 plus men’s category) – events: 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, cross country and 4×100m relay. Major Anish George, 4 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals (U-35 men’s category) – Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, javelin, shotput, discus throw, hammer throw and power lifting. Captain Stephen Sebastian, 6 gold medals (U-35 men’s category) – Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, Long Jump, Hammer Throw and 4×100m.

DGFMS Lt Gen Daljit Singh congratulated the officers for their stellar performance and wished them more success in future.

World medical and health sports, often regarded as Olympic sports for health professionals, have evolved into one of the most prestigious world sporting events within the medical community. Started in 1978, more than 2,500 participants from more than 50 countries take part annually.
