The foundation stone laying ceremony of the 8th ASW SWC (X-GRSE) was held on May 10, 24 at M/s GRSE, Kolkata. The function was presided over by Controller Ship Production and Acquisition Controller VADM B Sivakumar and was attended by CMDE PR Hari, Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE and other senior officers of Indian Navy and M/s GRSE.


The contract between the MoD and M/s GRSE of Kolkata for indigenous design and construction of the 08x ASW SW SW vessel was concluded on April 29. So far, six ships of the project have been launched with the delivery plan of the first vessel (Arnala) on August 24.

The Arnala Class of Ships will be built in place of ASW Corvette of the Abhay class in the service of the Indian Navy and has been designed for anti-submarine operations in the coastal waters, low intensity maritime operations (LIMO) and mine laying operations. Another important milestone for the Indian Navy in building indigenous ships is yard 3034, the last ship building of the project and it is similar to ‘Atmanirbhar Bhar.
