Dr. Birendra Kumar to administer mass pledge at ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in New Delhi tomorrow
jatinnews.com August 11, 2024 0New Delhi: As India celebrates its 78th Independence Day, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) is entering its fifth year. In view of this milestone, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is organizing a mass swearing-in ceremony against drug abuse across the country. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar will administer the mass pledge on NMBA to the students of Modern School, Badakhampa Road, New Delhi on August 12, 2024. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Vikshit Bharat Ka Mantra, Bharat Ho Nase Se Swatantra
Representatives of state/UT governments, union ministries, engineering and medical colleges
Representatives of state/UT governments, union ministries, engineering and medical colleges, IITs, IIMs, polytechnic colleges, fashion institutes, NCC, NYKS and other government institutions will also take a pledge against drug abuse and join online.
Drug use disorder is a problem that is adversely affecting the social fabric of the country. Dependence on any substance not only affects the health of the individual but also disrupts his family and society as a whole. Regular consumption of various psychoactive substances increases a person’s dependence. Certain substance compounds can cause neuro-mental illness, heart disease as well as accidents, suicides, and violence. Therefore, drug use and dependence need to be seen as a psycho-socio-medical problem.The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched the NMBA on 15th August 2020. It has been implemented in all districts of the country since August 2023. The NMBA wants to reach out to the public and create awareness about drug use. It focuses on higher educational institutions, university campuses, schools, etc., so as to reach out to the dependents. Nmba aims to provide counselling and treatment facilities in hospitals, rehabilitation centres and facilitate skill development programmes for service providers.
