Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today launched the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme 2.0 portal in New Delhi and provided a stipend of Rs 100 crore to the learners through DBT. These students are undergoing training in various fields such as IT/IT, manufacturing, automobile etc. The move is in sync with the government’s emphasis on skills and employment of the youth. The NATS 2.0 portal is expected to be used by a large number of beneficiaries to register and apply for apprenticeships. Apart from this, establishments/industries will use the portal to manage their vacant posts and contracts. Therefore, a large number of young graduates and diploma holders will be given a guaranteed monthly stipend along with acquiring employment skills

Two panel discussions on the future of apprenticeship - apprenticeship embedded degree programme

Two panel discussions on the future of apprenticeship – apprenticeship embedded degree programme, credit for all apprenticeships, use of technology for industry and higher education cooperation and DBT and technologies to strengthen e-governance were also organised, which was attended by eminent dignitaries, academicians and students. On the occasion, top three establishments/industrial cognizant technology solutions private limited, Infosys Limited and Tech Mahindra Private Limited were honoured.

Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said that NATS Portal 2.0 is an important effort to democratise apprenticeship, bridge the skill gap, meet the youth aspirations and prepare them for the future. He said the portal apprenticeship launched today will broaden the reach of opportunities and help candidates and employers in matchmaking.

He added that this era driven by technology is not only for obtaining degrees but also for skill development. Emphasis should be laid on enhancing employability in our curriculum,” he said. The Minister highlighted that this year’s Budget has also laid emphasis on increasing efficiency and employment. He added that our apprenticeship ecosystem should encompass diverse and emerging sectors. He called upon all stakeholders to devise a comprehensive strategy to harness the demographic dividend of the country.

All educational institutions and industries have to join the NATS 2.0 portal

The stipendary facilities of NATS are provided to the intended learners in a prescribed,

In order to ensure that the stipendary facilities of NATS are provided to the intended learners in a prescribed, efficient and transparent manner, the Government of India in 2024 has started issuing direct stipend to the bank accounts of the learners through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. It aims to expand the use of DBT system to provide a share of government stipend to all beneficiaries of the scheme.

The scheme has been supported by the NATS 2.0 portal developed by the Ministry of Education with the support of AICTE and BOAT/BOPT which is a permanent solution for managing apprentice life activities such as student registration through DBT, advertisement of vacant posts, student application, contractual construction, certification, reporting and stipend. It is used by students, industries, institutions and implementing agencies i.e. BOAT/BOPTs. It was being used in pilot mode and upgradation was initiated.

The portal is now fully operational and has been used by the Ministry of Education for conducting end-to-end DBT process.
