Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Mechanical Engineering Research launches electric tiller

The electric tiller will increase the torque and field efficiency as well as give priority to consumer comfort and environmental sustainability. It will also significantly reduce hand vibrations as compared to traditional ICE tillers and will not generate any garbage by working in silent mode. With its ability to reduce operating costs by up to 85%, its user-friendly design has made battery pack swapping more attractive and has the advantage of providing multiple charging options, including AC and Solar DC charging.

Dr N Kalliselvi, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), inaugurated the electric tiller of the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute in Durgapur on May 25. Csir-CMERI’s innovative technology has been used to cater to the needs of small to marginal farmers who constitute more than 80% of the country’s farming community. Usually with less than 2 hectares of land, these farmers can use electric tillers for various agricultural purposes and benefit from a substantial reduction in operating costs. Moreover, this progress demonstrates India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and promoting eco-friendly farming practices

The tiller also has the facility of ploughing, iron wheels and various connections

The tiller also has the facility of ploughing, iron wheels and various connections for various farming-related equipment for continuous high-quality farming. It has a 2-inch water pump and trolley attachment capable of carrying up to 500 kilograms, which adds to its versatility. With electronic control and ergonomic management, operators can easily navigate the field, reduce fatigue, and increase productivity. Csir-CMERI’s electric tiller is an important milestone in farm machinery, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient agricultural future.
