New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has so far arrested four Indian touts in connection with a case of smuggling of Indian citizens to fight in the Russian Army.

According to the CBI complaint, Mr. Bainsam had been working as a translator on contract basis in Russia and was also a key member of the network to recruit Indians in the Russian Army. The CBI has alleged that one of the accused, Michael Anthony, who lives in Dubai, and Faisal also indulged in the act along with him. Their job was to get people living in India to process their visas from Chennai and help the victims book flight tickets to Russia.

The smuggled Indians were trained before going to war and deployed in the front bases in the Russian-Ukrainian battlefield against their wishes. So the people who used to go there by the brokers were doing a lot of life and some were dying.

Cbi appears to be looking for two other brokers. They are residents of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and are the main employers, the agency said.

After the CBI raid, they told the agency that human traffickers and agents used to smuggle Indians by giving them free/concessional visa extension and fee structure by showing them names in suspected private universities in Russia.

On March 7 (2024), raids were conducted at over a dozen locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Ambala, Chandigarh and Chennai against private visa consultancy firms, agents and others. In this, 35 cases were reported from THE CBI.

Arun and Yesudas Junior, both residents of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case registered on March 6.
