On the occasion of the 65th Foundation Day celebrations of the BRO
The Defence Secretary BRO has been lauded for playing a key role in ensuring the country’s border security and socio-economic upliftment of the border areas.

Bro has also been requested to expedite the work by applying latest technology so that the projects are completed at the earliest.
The Defence Secretary in his address lauded the BRO for successfully discharging its duties in adverse terrain and harsh weather conditions. Which has played a major role in the security of the country through its infrastructure projects in the border areas as well as continuing various initiatives for the socio-economic upliftment of far-flung areas.

The defence secretary recalled the valuable contribution of BRO personnel in relief and rescue operations during the Silkyara tunnel collapse and sikkim floods.

A project on the Sela Tunnel was unveiled at the event and books like ‘Onchin Sadken’, ‘Path Produlghur’ and ‘Path Vikas’ were released by the Defence Secretary. He presented excellence awards to BRO employees for the year 2023-24 and felicitated the women achievers of the organization. Casual labourers who worked in various projects during the Sela tunnel and Sikkim floods were also felicitated.

 

Myanmar, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, contributing to the country's strategic goals.

The BRO mainly undertakes road construction and maintenance work at altitudes ranging from 9,0 feet to 19,000 feet along the northern and western borders to meet the strategic needs of the armed forces. Over the course of six decades, it has built over 62,214 km of roads, 1,005 bridges, seven tunnels and 21 airfields in friendly countries, including Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, contributing to the country’s strategic goals.

In 2023-24, the BRO completed a total of 125 infrastructure projects worth Rs 3,611 crore. This includes the construction of the Sela tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh on the Balipara-Chardwar-Tawang road. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, recently dedicated the Tunnel to the nation virtually from Itanagar. The BRO will soon start construction of the 4.10km long Shinkun La tunnel. The tunnel will become the world’s tallest tunnel at the age of 15 when it is completed.
