Successfully experimentation of 160 World Crocodile Day

On the occasion of World Crocodile Day this year, 160 gharial eggs have been successfully hatched in the Gandak river in the last one week. The Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), in collaboration with the forest department and dedicated nest observers from the local community, has been keeping a close watch on six crocodile nests in the river basins of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for the past three months.

Notably, a gharial nest was found in the Sohagibarwa Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh.

Its introduction was made possible through unique tail scooty marks.The project to lay eggs for reptiles launched by the World Wildlife Federation and the forest department under the Gandak crocodile restoration project is a success.

In the last 11 years, more than 600 crocodile cubs have been successfully released into the river.
