New Delhi: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in association with The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), organised a pre-event conference for Global Wind Day at Swagat Hotel in Bhubaneswar today.

India's coastal wind capacity is estimated to be 1,164 GW at an altitude of 150 metres above the surface.

Joint Secretary Lalit Bohra’s address was read out by Dr. B.K. Mohanty, Director (Finance), IREDA, in which he stressed on the rapid development of renewable energy across India and highlighted the steps taken by the Government of India, including the State of Odisha. Speaking as the keynote speaker, Pradip Kumar Das, CMD, IREDA highlighted the remarkable green energy potential of Odisha and the promising opportunities within the state. Highlighting the potential of Odisha to lead the green hydrogen project, he stressed on the important role of the state in taking forward the sustainable energy programme. As of March 31, 2024, IREDA has disbursed a total loan of Rs 1,25,917 crore in the renewable energy sector and Rs 26,913 crore has been disbursed for wind power projects across the country. Ireda has provided a loan of Rs 1,637 crore, especially for renewable energy projects in Odisha. Mr. Das highlighted Odisha’s Renewable Energy Policy 2022, which aims to encourage investment in the clean energy sector with special focus on RE manufacturing and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, green ammonia and floating solar. He reiterated the importance of harnessing renewable energy for sustainable national development and encouraged renewable energy developers to utilise it.Read More
