Union Minister Piyush Goyal has formally assumed charge of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry

New Delhi: Union Minister Piyush Goyal has formally assumed charge of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for the second consecutive term. After assuming charge, Goyal immediately convened a review meeting with senior officials of both the departments under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Shri Jitin Prasada. In the meeting, the Commerce Secretary and DPIIT Secretary presented a brief report on the ongoing proposals and works of the government.

 

Shri Goyal stressed on the need for continuous cooperation

Shri Goyal stressed on the need for continuous cooperation and directed to hold a series of meetings in the coming days to know the details of various policies and actions to be finalized.

He urged the officers to focus on honesty, speed, efficiency and scale. He said local value addition and export (scale) committees and production linked incentive (PLI) schemes need to be utilised to their full capacity to promote exports and domestic production.

Goyal mentioned the growth of overall exports from India,

Highlighting the achievements of his previous tenure, Goyal mentioned the growth of overall exports from India, signing of various Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), significant inflow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country, etc. The Minister expressed hope to take the Ministry of Commerce and Industry towards new heights with renewed commitments to promote economic growth and promote international trade, so that India’s progress remains steady and inclusive.
