The Prime Minister said that the Government of India has extended full support to the State Governments and should continue to do so. Fishermen are advised not to venture into south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea; Nearly one lakh people have been shifted to safer places. The Prime Minister, along with ndrf teams currently deployed in West Bengal and Odisha, has directed that more teams be kept on standby and be ready to leave within an hour. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today chaired a meeting at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg to review the preparedness for cyclone ‘Remal’ that has formed over north Bay of Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic storm is very likely to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts by midnight tonight, between Sagar Islands and Khepupara, located in the southwest of Mangla (Bangladesh), and there is a possibility of rain in West Bengal and north-eastern states.
The Prime Minister was apprised that the National Disaster Management Committee is in regular touch with the Government of West Bengal. All fishermen have been advised not to venture into south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Around one lakh people are being shifted to safer places.
