Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship inaugurated the India Skills Competition 2024, the country’s highest skill competition, today.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) organized an inaugural function at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi in which more than 900 students from more than 30 states and Union Territories and more than 400 industry experts participated. The inaugural function was attended by MsDE Senior Economic Advisor Nilambuj Sharan. Smt. Trishalajit Sethi, DG Training, MSDE; Smt. Sonal Mishra, Joint Secretary, MSDE; Mrs. Hena Usman Joint Secretary, MSDE; and Shri Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, National Skill Development Corporation. All participating states also showcased their teams and cultural diaspora. This was followed by a cultural programme, in which the audience performed various dances of the country.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari said that India Skills 2024 is not just a competition but a celebration of skill, innovation and determination. This is a testimony to the immense potential of the youth and ability to shape the future of the country, he said. He also said that this is a platform where dreams come true and aspirations are fulfilled. He added that he believes in the abilities of the candidates and is hopeful that they will excel in World Skills 2024.

Over the next three days, the contestants will compete in various skills ranging from construction and building technology, creative arts and fashion to information and communication technology, manufacturing and engineering technology and transportation and logistics. The event will conclude on May 19 with a grand closing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ved Mani Tiwari said that India Skills is a platform that nurtures aspirations and promotes creativity. By implementing this programme, NSDC will not only put the country at the forefront but also pave the way for a more inclusive society, he said. Shri Tiwari further said that along with global skills competition, India Skills is also playing an important role in building a common society by creating opportunities to interact with candidates, industry leaders, education partners, governments and partner countries.

This year, participants will get a chance to earn credit within the National Credit Framework. Both the global skills and all the competencies displayed in the India Skills Competition are subtly aligned with the National Skills Eligibility Framework (NSQF), which empowers participants to credit their learning outcomes and take a rich career lead in their chosen fields. For the first time, India Skills has introduced a competition information system called Crencia.

Around 2.5 lakh candidates have registered for the competition on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) portal, out of which 26,000 were selected through a pre-screening process. The data was provided to the states for organizing state and district level competitions, out of which more than 900 students were selected for the India Skills National Competition.

The entire process of selection not only creates a sense of competition among the participants but also plays an important role in the formation of ASP.
